Natural stone terrace

Cut in careers then worked and formatted, the stone was the noble material indeed for a long time par excellence, as well as slate for the roofs for example.

But in the same way that the slate is accessible today, the stone is with the range of almost all the budgets within the framework of external installations, terraces or accesses of swimming pool.

In France, the Rock natural belongs to the inheritance. One finds it at all the times on the buildings, monuments, palate but also the houses of village, in interior pavement, external flagstone, wall lining, massive stone, in chimney, lintels, sinks, fountains…

The stone of the Burgundy, most widespread and known, astonishes by the variety by its tons hot, and its patina.

• Maintenance:

To eliminate dust by aspiration and to wash with clear water using a wet floorcloth or by mechanical brushing under a minimum of water, added if necessary with a soft soap or household soap. To rinse well.

To prohibit the detergents commercial, which destroy the natural protection of the stone: cullet. It is the best and the simplest means of obtaining a fascinating pavement with time a natural brilliance and of facilitating the cullet formation, chemical reaction of self-defence of the natural stones. It is disadvised washing under high pressure.

In the event of accident, wine spot or other in interior, or stains of foam in outside, one will be able to use bleach diluted, which one will rinse carefully.

• Crystallization:

In certain rare case, and only for certain hard stones, one will be able to proceed after the installation, with the polishing and crystallization of the stone, which is a modification of the molecular structure of the stone on a very low thickness by chemical reaction (with a magnesium silicate plus a catalyst)

• Protection:

After the installation, the stone will be perfectly washed with pure water in order to eliminate dust. One lets dry a good fifteen or so days in order to make go up all the milts and one can apply a water repellent, in order to close again the pores and to facilitate maintenance.

There exist many products in the trade to protect, vitrify, or wax the stone according to the tastes and the uses. These products are not advised in outside.

Thus the stone Massangis, a clear yellow rock, starts in the neighbourhoods of 35€ the m ² including all taxes and St Rémy around 60€.

Chassagne, which one finds with the museum of Louvre, or Buxy, which one finds with the museum of Orsay, not stones of second hand thus, is worth between 70 and 80€ the m ²

Moreover, all the natural stone traders regularly organize sale by batches, the pays of the profession to some extent, which make it possible to the customers nosy and not very in a hurry to find stones of very good quality at very advantageous prices.

Lastly, not to forget the option of the sandstone paving stones whose price varies from 35 with 55€ the m ²

Obviously, for which wants to use rare stones cut to measure, the prices can appear much higher indeed.

The stones which are posed in outside are ground (passed with the grinding stone), flammées (what with the advantage also of increasing the ranges of colours), brushed, striated or mouchardées (pricked) in order to make them non-skid.

It is necessary to pay attention with the stones mouchardées around a swimming pool because they can appear too pointed under barefeet. Idem for all the stones marbrières very slipping which need to be made non-skid.

Techniques of surfacing of the stones and marbles also make it possible to make age your coating more or less.

Take guard with the stones which are not antigélives, i.e. which does not resist freezing. Almost all on the other hand keep heat without becoming extreme.

Some known stone names: Tuffeau, Richemont, Chauvigny, Migné, Tervoux, Sireuil, Borèze, Haims, Limeyrat, Vilhonneur, Massangis.

Other favours, they are posed rather easily, a craftsman who knows the code of practice will not have any difficulty and do not require almost any maintenance, the rain and the wind taking care some very well, if necessary bali-brushes it with soapy water or the carsher will make the deal.

Attention however with the porous stones or limestones likely to be tried or blacken with the wire of time. There exists in this case of the products of vitrification which make it possible to protect them.

The natural stones resist the shocks, UV, the spots and can last of the millenia (the Roman ways have not moved for 2000 years).

It is however necessary to think of putting outside the sufficiently thick stones to prevent that they do not break. It is undoubtedly the principal defect of the imported stones, too fine, sold in large surface.

The natural stones can on the occasion being cut to measure but they géneralement offer a range of dimension and forms which allows the many ones of designs, the more so as the various stones mix very well.

They must nevertheless be registered, perhaps more than all other external materials, within the architectural framework of the house.

The last advantage, and not least, the natural stone terraces, because of their durability and by their nobility, is not devalued and offers true more been worth at the time of the resale of the house.

To finish, if you wish stones cut to measure, will know that the stone size is not improvised and it is necessary to be addressed to qualified tailors.

Often the companies or craftsmen cut, work and pose their parts. The great groups also often call upon a network of qualified craftsmen.

With regard to only the installation, should rather easily find a craftsman (undertaken general or tile-layer to you) but some are specialized than in others and have specific qualifications.

Pave glass

The flagstone of glass is a run plate glass, thick from 3 to 5 centimetres, square or rectangular, of 20 cm edge or 30 cm X 20 cm.

The use of flagstones of glass relates to a technique of stained glass, in which the canopies consist of parts of flagstones assembled with concrete or resins.

The execution of a stained glass in flagstones of glass requires at the beginning the same stages as that of a stained glass crimped out of leads.

It is necessary as a preliminary to establish a model at the 1/10, then a paperboard which is used as reference mark, a statement of the layout with a copy then a calibration of the parts on strong paper.

The cut of the plates a strong thickness is outlined with the saw or diamond, then completed with a marteline provided with plates of carbide to tungsten. This cut can be left voluntarily rough and as shredded, to obtain plays of light. The parts of glass are then laid out in a formwork of wood with dimensions of the stained glass.

Before carrying out the casting, one prepares a metal reinforcement for the concrete. The expert runs a first concrete bed, then it sets up the metal reinforcement before running a second layer.

The unit is covered after a few hours with sawdust to clean glass of the surplus of concrete or resin.

This modern technology appeared in 1927, on the initiative of the glass Master French Jean Gaudin. Its rise was primarily related on that of the reinforced concrete contemporary architecture and to the rebuilding of the religious buildings according to war, but it ended up also gaining old buildings and triumphing over a priori over its detractors.
